Society Announcement

Hi folks,

It's been some time since I've been around, and this is because of a variety of things - mainly an overload in life (new daughter, tenure year at my University, expanded work-load, yada yada)....

Since it's the new year, it was time to look at things and make some decisions. The first is a tough one for me, which is I will be stepping down as the official "head" of the C&C Society.

I have had a long talk with Steve about this today, and he will be mulling over who will take the reigns as the Society moves forward. I will remain very active, and will continue to act as "squire" to whomever does take the official leadership. I will continue to be the membership/rolls coordinator and will continue helping organize events at both GenCon and GaryCon this year.

The Society itself remains in transition, and is still seeking about, searching for its "purpose" and place in the Crusade. In my talk with Steve, he very much wants it to continue and, more importantly, to really serve all the players of C&C. It was originally restarted to that end, and really should be, quite simply, a tool for bringing players together (both face-to-face and online) to game and spread the Crusade about C&C. A lot of ideas have been floated, tried, didn't work, etc., but the Society is still here and will continue to be so, even as it searches for how best to successfully exist.

Now, one of the things that's happened is that a lot of people have seen the Society as being something different, and it's tried to be those things at different times - separate and about all gaming in general rather than tied to TLG and C&C (always difficult when the name IS C&C Society), an avenue for publishing work, etc. While all our endeavors have been noble, it has meant the Society remained somewhat diffuse and elusive, with different pulls from members on its direction. Sometimes the better thing to do is step back and find a strong, narrow focus - a mission for the Society that is practical and viable. Again, Steve and I talked about this, and as I step aside I urge everyone to embrace and support the mission of the Society as it goes forward.

So I'm not going anywhere as an active member of the community, or even as an active part of the Society.

Alea Iacta Est!

Society First Contest Winners Announced!

While it's been a long time, we never forgot our First Society Contest and we have the winners. Society officers voted, though they could not vote for their own submissions (this was done on the old Society forums some time ago).

All winners will receive a copy of the "Ruins of Ramat" from BHP/Arcana, and the Grand Prize winner will receive a copy of the "Umbrage Saga" box set and the full-sized module "The Secret of Ronan Skerry" from BHP/Arcana as well. The winning entries will be featured in the last "large" Domesday Book (issue # V) coming soon.

1. Grand Prize - Belinda Kelly (Storm Queen) for "Damek's Fujara"

2. Michael Spires (DangerDwarf) for both "Nastala's Lament" and "Grimslade's Grimoire"

3. Patrick Wong (Ssfsx17) for both "Crown of the Troll Lords" and "Rorzak's Pendulum"

4. John Wright (seskis281) for "Baetylus of Nindaral"

5. Chris Maler (thegreenman) for "Mixwell's Legendary Tube"

6. Daniel Corwin (Frost) for "Manistus the Scriviner"

* Note - I considered disqualifying myself from contention altogether, but was persuaded by other officers not to. Since the other officers all voted for my entry, I merely disqualified myself from contention for the grand prize but am honored they voted for me.

I will be contacting winners by email shortly to arrange for disbursement of the prizes.

Society Updates - Dec. 2009

Greetings all this Holiday Season!

First off, my apologies as High Squire for tardiness in Society matters. I did find myself overwhelmed with stuff in life that kept pushing my involvement further and further behind on the Society....

Suffice it to say, yours truly keeps finding more and more on his professional plate at the University I work for... I have been asked to take on a good number of campus administrative duties in addition to my full-time faculty teaching and theatre directing load (sadly that comes with no extra pay, just "professional development" cred and helping the mounting needs of a small campus).

I have caught up FINALLY on registrations for the Society (sorry especially to AJCarrington that it took so long!).

The Domesday V has all stuff in, but just has been languishing as I needed to put it into layout. Every time I thought I'd have time I found myself behind on other stuff, and the addition of our beautiful new daughter meant weekends when I wasn't working needed family time instead.

So, here's what we are doing:

1. I have asked Eric Piper (piperdog) to take over and finish up the layout on the last "big" issue of Domesday (# V) and will be emailing and forwarding all the articles, art and material to him. He will do it as he can, though please know these are the Holidays and he has a lot on his plate too. It will be done when it is done.

2. Once it is complete, we will switch next year sometime to a Newsletter Format, as previously discussed, of the Domesday Book (perhaps "The Domesday Letter"). HERE I NEED HELP - I need to solicit someone to take over the editorship of the newsletter and be responsible for it's production - we may do it monthly if someone can commit to that much, or we could do it quarterly. We all have full plates I know, but if we want to continue to grow the Soceity and to have this sort of thing continue, we need some active commitment from members.

3. I have asked Eric and he has accepted to take the lead in the TLG ambassador/CK program. That is still ongoing in development, so it may be a bit into the new year before it can be really established. If you are wanting to represent C&C at a con before we get it going, email me and we will see what we can do for some support.

4. My main responsibilities need to be really focused on the "big picture", maintaining our rolls & member database, coordinating the different endeavors, etc. The Society "Squire's Page" will continue to look to host and promote material produced by it's members. If you have something in pdf, relatively nice, that you would like us to host, please submit it to me. The one thing we can't do with that is act as a layout, editor or "publisher" in putting them together, so we will host this material as it is provided by you as members.

Ok, so that's where we're at and I just want to give my apologies to all the members for letting myself get behind again... it is a Troll Lord world after all.....

So to all members, let this be a CALL TO ARMS to pitch in and contribute to the Society even more in the new year!

Alea Iacta Est!

Changes Continue Apace for the C&C Society!
September 2, 2009

As you can see, these pages have now become "The High Squire's Corner" of the C&C Society, with the main pages now being located at the link above via the Troll Lord Games' official site.

These pages are still in progress, but you will get a pretty good look and preview of how things will be developing.

This site will continue to host the Rolls (which will also appear with new heraldry options at the main site in the future), as well as The Domesday Book downloads and The Muse's Market, which will be where the Society hosts member-produced downloadable material (netbooks, etc.)

I will also use the front page of The High Squire's Corner (this page) to post updates and info on the Society as we proceed.

Alea Iacta Est!

Sincerely,

John "Sir Seskis" Wright
